DUBAIEmirates has warned customers to prepare for a busy start to the New Year, with a significant surge in passenger traffic expected between January 2 and January 5.

The airline anticipates heavy movement across both departures and arrivals during this period, driven by post-holiday returns and winter travel demand through Dubai International Airport.

Passengers travelling during the four-day peak are being advised to allow extra time for their journeys, with Emirates recommending arrival at the airport at least four hours before departure. The airline has highlighted the likelihood of increased road congestion, full car parks and longer queues inside terminals as travel volumes rise.

To help customers navigate the rush, Emirates has outlined four key recommendations aimed at easing the airport experience and reducing time spent at check-in counters.

Remote check-in

Emirates is encouraging passengers to use its remote check-in facilities, particularly those travelling from Dubai and neighbouring emirates. Customers can check in and drop luggage at the Emirates City Check In and Travel Store at ICD Brookfield Place in Dubai International Financial Centre. The facility allows check-in from 24 hours up to four hours before departure and offers free parking.

The DIFC location is open daily from 8am to 12 midnight until January 15. Emirates has also confirmed that passengers using this facility during this period will receive 2,500 Emirates Skywards Miles as an incentive.

In addition, Emirates City Check In Ajman continues to operate around the clock at Ajman Central Bus Terminal. The service allows customers to complete check-in formalities and baggage drop between 24 hours and four hours before their flight, offering an alternative for those travelling from the northern emirates.

Home check-in

Passengers departing from Dubai and Sharjah can also opt for Emirates’ Home Check-In service, which allows travellers to complete the process at their residence, hotel or office. Emirates agents handle documentation and baggage collection, enabling customers to arrive at the airport later with hand luggage only.

The service must be booked at least 24 hours before departure, with Emirates advising early reservations due to high demand during peak travel periods. Home Check-In is complimentary for First Class passengers and Emirates Skywards Platinum members.

Public transport

To avoid road congestion around Dubai International Airport, Emirates is recommending the use of public transport, particularly the Dubai Metro. Terminal 3 is directly connected to the Red Line via the Airport Terminal 3 station, providing seamless access through walkways and escalators.

Metro services run frequently from early morning until late at night, offering a reliable option for both departing and arriving passengers during busy traffic periods. The same route can be used by customers returning home after their flights.

Early arrival

Emirates has reiterated the importance of arriving at Dubai International Airport at least four hours before scheduled departure. The airline advises passengers to complete online check-in in advance where possible, ensure travel documents are valid and reach their boarding gate at least one hour before departure.

Customers are also being encouraged to pre-select seats through the Emirates app or website to streamline the airport process during one of the busiest travel periods of the season.
